The Scandia swivel lounge chair and ottoman combine comfort with a distinctly Norwegian approach to mid-century design. Designed by Hans Brattrud, the chair features a sculptural rosewood seat set within a steel frame, upholstered here in soft shearling and finished with cognac leather straps. Its swivel and reclining functions add to its practicality, while the curved wooden structure gives the chair a light, open presence. The accompanying ottoman completes the design, creating a relaxed seating arrangement that works equally well as a statement piece or as an inviting place to sit.

Hans Brattrud (1933–2017) was a Norwegian designer best known for the Scandia chair series, which he developed while studying at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo. The original Scandia chair was designed in 1957 as a student project, using laminated wooden ribs to create a flexible, three-dimensional form from a simple linear construction. The series was subsequently developed into several models, including the lounge and easy chairs. Produced by Hove Møbler from 1960, Scandia gained international recognition and became one of the defining designs of Norwegian mid-century furniture.

Condition

The chair has been re-upholstered in a soft shearling with cognac leather straps. Both the frame of the chair and the footstool have been restored and refinished. The swivel and reclining mechanism are checked and working properly.
