The G4 coffee table was designed by Janni van Pelt in 1956 and produced in-house by Bas van Pelt. The table consists of a circular wired glass top supported by three slender, solid steel legs. The legs taper towards their pointed ends and are joined by a black lacquered steel ring, which provides both structural support and a distinctive detail within the design. Rather than sitting above the frame, the glass top is positioned on the inside of the three legs, creating a clean relationship between the transparent surface and the metal structure. The glass itself reveals a very subtle grid pattern, adding a discreet graphic element to the otherwise restrained design. The combination of glass, steel and precise construction gives the G4 its characteristic functional and geometric appearance.

Janni van Pelt and Bas van Pelt were closely involved in the development of modern Dutch furniture and interiors during the post-war period. Bas van Pelt, who ran his own furniture business and workshop, produced furniture in-house, allowing the designs to be developed and constructed with close attention to materials and production. Janni contributed to the design of a number of pieces, including tables created for their interiors and furniture practice. Their work reflects the principles of Dutch modernism, with an emphasis on functionality, clarity of construction and economical use of materials. The G4 is a particularly clear example of their approach, combining a simple structural idea with a carefully resolved form.

Condition
The table shows some small signs of age and use on the steel frame, which is noticable when taking a closer look. The glass top is fully in tact showing minor signs of use.
