The teak frame stands out through the grain of the wood, which runs through the backrest and continues across the entire structure. This creates a continuous visual line that gives the chair a strong sense of unity and consistency.
The cognac leather is patinated which adds character without overpowering the design. The contrast between the leather and the teak is balanced and natural, allowing both materials to remain visually present.
This armchair works well as a standalone piece or in combination with other mid-century elements. It brings material contrast and a clear design language rooted in Danish modern tradition, where function and construction are always visible in the final form.
Børge Mogensen was a Danish furniture designer and one of the central figures of Danish modernism in the mid-20th century. He is best known for his functional and understated approach to design, focusing on furniture that was made to be used in everyday life rather than purely for display. His work is characterised by simple construction, clear proportions, and a strong emphasis on durability. Mogensen often worked with natural materials such as oak and teak, combined with leather or canvas, allowing the material quality to define the character of the piece rather than decorative elements.
Condition
The chair features a beautifully lived-in patinated cognac leather upholstery with clear signs of long-term use, which adds character and depth. The teak frame is in very good condition, showing only minor signs of wear consistent with age. The structure has been checked and is in good order. The foam and seating straps are quite worn, therefor the chair is only intended for low volume usage. Restoration of the seating comfort possible on request, as well as reupholstery
At present, the chair is well suited as a standalone piece for light or occasional use, where its original materials and patina can be appreciated as they are. If desired, it can also be reupholstered and fully restored to make it suitable for more intensive, everyday use.
We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for. -
