One shade is pastel yellow, the other pastel green. The base is circular and polished. The brass stems are cylindrical and rise from the base at a slight angle. The shades are conical and attached with small visible fasteners. The materials include solid marble, brass, and thin-gauge aluminum with a matte painted finish. The paint is original and shows uniform application. The lamp was produced in Italy using mid-century industrial techniques. The design follows functional and geometric principles typical of the period. All elements are original to the piece.
Marked at green shade with Stilnovo manufacturers label.
Stilnovo was an Italian lighting manufacturer established in Milan in 1946 by Bruno Gatta. The company produced modern lighting fixtures during the mid-20th century. It collaborated with prominent designers and architects in Italy. Stilnovo emphasized industrial materials and modular forms. Its production combined machine fabrication with manual assembly. The company worked primarily with metals such as brass and aluminum, along with glass and marble. Stilnovo contributed to the evolution of postwar Italian design. Its lamps were sold internationally and featured in major exhibitions. The company ceased operations in the 1980s. Its original works are considered significant examples of mid-century lighting design.Condition
The shades show small signs of age and use, as well as the brass stem and marble base. The stem can be polished up somewhat more when preferred. The shade can be further cleaned if preferred however we've decided to keep some age related spots visible.
