The table combines a molded birch plywood top with a bent and black lacquered metal base, materials that allowed efficient manufacturing while maintaining structural stability.
Braakman developed plywood forming techniques after study visits to the United States, where mass-production methods influenced his approach at Pastoe. The TM series introduced lightweight tables that could be moved and used in different parts of the home, aligning with changing domestic layouts in the 1950s. The surface of the TM03 features a perforated metal section, providing a convenient spot to store magazines and books, a detail that is both functional and playful. Original examples are documented in Pastoe catalogues from the early 1950s and were produced in limited runs compared with larger case pieces, contributing to their presence in museum and private collections today. The table shows similarities with works by Artimeta and the French Designed Matthieu Mategot.
Condition
The surface of this side table has recently received a restoration and has been refinished, brining back the vivid wood grain of the birch plywood. It only shows minor signs of age and use. The metal base remains in it's original condition with signs of use and wear which is in line with the age of the table.
We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for. -
