The design emphasizes clean lines and functional form, characteristic of the Scarpa’s approach. The combination of durable canvas and industrial steel provides both comfort and stability. Suitable for various settings, including dining rooms, offices, and public spaces, these chairs integrate modernist design with practical utility.
The chairs are a more industrial variation on Scarpa their 'Monk' Chair.
Tobia Scarpa (born 1935) and Afra Scarpa (1937–2011) were Italian designers known for their contributions to modernist furniture and architecture. Both studied at the Università Iuav di Venezia, where Tobia was the son of renowned architect Carlo Scarpa. Their work combined traditional materials with industrial production techniques, creating functional and innovative designs. Notable furniture pieces include the Soriana collection for Cassina, the Bastiano sofa for Gavina and the Monk chairs for Molteni. They also designed interiors for companies such as Benetton, applying their clean, modern aesthetic to commercial spaces. Their designs remain influential in contemporary furniture and industrial design.
Condition
The chairs show signs of age and use throughout the frame. One of the chairs has one cap in the front of the chair missing and two caps on the backrest damaged. Additionally the canvas is in tact and shows some signs of wear throughout the seating element, backrest and back of the chair.
We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for.
