Based on the principles of the Golden Ratio this bench has beautiful proportions. The minimalist shape executed in solid elm shows a very deep patina gained over time. This specific version is an early and aged example showing a stunning grain due to the use of the currently distinct European Elm (Ulmus laevis).
Pierre Chapo (1927-1987) was a French furniture designer and craftsman known for his solid wood creations and minimalist, functional designs. He worked primarily with natural materials such as French Elm and Oak, emphasizing natural beauty and traditional joinery techniques. Chapo's work is often associated with the French modernist movement, blending rustic simplicity with geometric precision. His designs are based on the golden ratio and he was driven by three core principles: 'material, form, and function.'
