The set consists of two CH37 armchairs and six CH36 side chairs, forming a complete dining arrangement. Finding a full set of eight chairs from this series is becoming more and more uncommon.
The chairs are made of solid oak and finished with wax, which highlights the natural character of the wood. The papercord seats have been completely rewoven with new cord to provide good comfort. All chairs have been professionally restored and are in very good condition, ready for decades of use.
The two armchairs still retain their original Carl Hansen & Søn labels.
Furniture from the Scandinavian modern period is known for its focus on craftsmanship, durable materials, and functional design. Wegner’s work is a well-known example of this tradition, where careful construction and natural materials result in furniture that remains relevant and usable decades after it was designed.
Hans Wegner was active in the mid-twentieth century and designed chairs and other furniture using wood and natural materials. He collaborated with Carl Hansen & Søn to produce chairs that combined functional joinery, structural balance, and woven seating. Wegner’s work explored variations in form and proportion while using traditional woodworking techniques. His designs contributed to Danish modern furniture and influenced chair design internationally through the use of visible joinery, ergonomic construction, and the integration of wood with hand-woven materials.
Condition
The set of chairs is in good vintage condition with a visible natural wood grain. All chairs have received a restoration and have been checked for stability. The Papercord seats have been renewed. The frames show small signs of age and use throughout, consistent with the age of the set.
We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.
In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for. -
