This pair of large ottomans from Sweden, dating to the 1950s–1960s, is constructed in solid pine with curly shearling cushions. The pine frame is joined using traditional woodworking techniques, providing a stable base for the cushions. The shearling cushions are fitted directly onto the frame, allowing the seating surface to retain its form and support. The size and proportion of the ottomans make them suitable for flexible use as seating or footrests within a living space. Swedish furniture design of the 1950s and 1960s emphasized functional forms, natural materials, and clean structural solutions, reflecting a postwar interest in craftsmanship and practical living. Furniture from this period often combined wood with textile elements to create durable, adaptable pieces. These ottomans illustrate mid-century Swedish approaches to functional furniture design that prioritized clarity, comfort, and material integrity.

The work shows similarities with designs from other Swedish architects such as Axel Einar Hjorth for Nordiska Komapniet, Ludvig Stürm and Göran Malmvall,

    Condition

These ottomans have been reupholstered in a shearling. The solid pine frames are showing some subtle traces of wear which is in line with the age of the item. The pieces are in good vintage condition.

We have consciously chosen to photograph all of our items in their current state to present the real original condition as completely as possible for transparency towards our clients.

In case you have any additional questions about the original condition, always feel free to reach out and ask us for additional images. We do also offer services such as restoration and re-upholstery in case this is wished for.
