Originating back to the 1930’s this lounge chair shows elegant curves and holds a comfortable body. Typical shapes showing the French decorative furniture design of the period. The chair has been made with a deep walnut stained beech frame with elegant curves and details. The slightly uplifting bend leg is combined with an oval wooden frame. The seat and back of the club chair show very elegant curved details creating an interesting line play.
This arm chair has been completely restored and reupholstered with a high quality wool mohair fabric using traditional upholstery techniques.
An interesting detail about this chair is the reclining function with a manual system using a chain which goes all the way through the back. A metal chain on the back of the chair allows the user to change the angle of the backrest by moving the chain into different positions. Ultimately the back can be folded down making it a straight line with the seat for total relaxation.
The combination of materials and mechanical function reflects the construction methods of the period. The design includes elements associated with the Art Deco movement, such as symmetry and the use of visible structure. The lounge chair was produced during a time of innovation in residential furniture design.
Condition
The chair has been reupholstered with a high quality fabric. Foam has been replaced. The frame was restored with respect for it's age. The system to adjust the backrest is working smoothly.
